#2. Who invented quiz?

The right answer is None of the above.  The origin of the word “Quiz” is not known.

The popular story about the word “Quiz” goes back to 1791. Richard Daly (a Dublin theatre proprietor) made a bet that he would create and make a nonsensical word known throughout the city within 48 hours and the general public would provide the meaning for it.

Accordingly, he asked his staff to write the word ‘Quiz ‘ on the walls around the city, soon this word became the talk of the town, and it became a part of the language, thus the word was considered as a practical joke.

However, a more vintage use of the word “Quiz” is attributed to one Ms. Fanny Burney in 1782 who coined it to define an odd or eccentric person.
