Kids have been out of school for nearly a semester due to COVID-19. Is it safe to send my kid back to school if and when school starts is a question that haunts anxious parents?
As parents, here is what we can do to prepare kids for safe schooling once the schools reopen.
As a parent, one of the biggest challenges you’re managing right now is how to let your kid safely be a kid during the COVID-19 pandemic
Educate kids about the situation: Educate kids and help them understand how things will be different in school this time. Teach them the importance of social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing their hands frequently. Discuss important information about COVID-19. Be sure to present the information as subtly and gently as possible to prevent excess worry or fear.
Prepare a school kit: Along with the usual backpack and lunch box, you can also ready a special school kit for your kids. The kit can consist of a hand sanitizer, a fresh pair of tissues, a towel, supplement gummies or candies, a spare mask, hand gloves (if needed), and such.
Have a commuting schedule: If you drop your kid at school in your personal vehicle, ensure you wear a mask as well. Avoid unnecessary meetings with other parents and avoid gathering near the school. If your kid travels by bus or any other means of transport, teach him/her to maintain a safe social distance.
Kids should sanitize their hands before and after getting off the vehicle. Make sure to have a drop and pick up schedule in place to prevent unnecessary waiting in front of the school.
After-school learning: COVID-19 or not, kids still need to study after school. After-school learning plays a crucial role in academic success. You might be thinking of private tuitions or coaching centers to supplement school learning, but before you enroll them into one, ensure they have all the necessary safety measures in place.
If you wish to save yourself and your kid the risk of going to an unprepared tuition center, you can try online learning programs like BYJU’S Online Tuition, where-in your kid can get access to world-class learning content in the comfort and safety of your home.
Teach them safe practices: Teach kids not to touch their faces with un-sanitized hands. Ask them to place their belongings, such as school bags, in designated areas after reaching home. Practice proper handwashing techniques. Help them cope with the changes due to COVID-19.
